The Fall 2026 Menswear Trends I’d Actually Spend On

Fall 2026 menswear trends are easier to follow than they look on the runway. Most come down to a few colors, materials and shapes. You can add them one piece at a time. I’d rather spend on two of those than on ten new things.

If you keep putting off the one purchase you need, that’s understandable. Nobody can tell which version still looks right in March. Start with the right two pieces and the whole season follows.

What Are the Fall 2026 Menswear Trends?

Five moves cover most of the fall 2026 menswear trends. Brown replaces black as the base color, suede carries the outerwear and the quarter-zip pushes the hoodie down the pile. Denim gets heavier, and one warm red does the job a logo used to do.

Runways said the same thing in a more expensive way. Zegna built its collection around loden coats and house checks. Dries Van Noten showed corduroy and Fair Isle knits over wide trousers. What’s left once you strip the show away is simple: softer materials, warmer colors and much less black.

We mapped the women’s side of the season in our fall 2026 fashion trends. Below, the ten men’s trends are grouped in the order I’d buy them, starting with the cheapest move.

Start With Color: Brown Instead of Black

If you’re on a budget, I’d start here. Color is the cheapest trend to follow, because one brown piece changes how everything else you own looks. One brown piece is enough to start.

Brown needs a lighter partner, though. Brown on dark brown on black turns muddy, so pair it with cream, grey or washed denim.

1) Chocolate Brown Instead of Black

Chocolate, cocoa and coffee run through almost every fall palette this year. A brown ribbed knit over washed cream jeans and tan boots looks considered. In black, the same fit would look like laundry day. Brown simply reads softer in grey November light.

2) One Hit of Red

Red is the accent this whole neutral palette was built for. Here it’s oxblood sneakers under grey wide trousers and a cream sweatshirt, and nothing else in the fit has color. One red piece makes a neutral outfit look chosen. A cap, a beanie or a scarf does the same job.

The Materials of Fall 2026: Suede, Corduroy and Heavy Denim

Texture is the second move. Specifically, three materials carry the season: suede for jackets, corduroy for trousers and denim that’s heavier than last year’s.

All three look better worn in, which means secondhand is often the smarter buy. Suede is also the one that hates rain, so I’d keep it for dry days.

3) The Suede Jacket

Suede is the status material of the season, and it says so without a logo. A brown suede blouson worn open over a dark knit with washed wide jeans is the shape that works.

4) Corduroy Instead of Velvet

Velvet had the better season on paper. Almost nobody wants to wear it to the bus stop on a wet Tuesday, though, with a bag on one shoulder and a coffee in the other hand, so it stays a runway story.

Wide-wale corduroy makes the same texture argument at a volume you can live with. Here it’s brown cord trousers with a ribbed olive knit and black loafers.

5) Denim That Got Heavier This Year

Denim stopped growing sideways and started gaining weight, which you’ll feel the first time you pick up a pair of fourteen-ounce jeans in a shop and notice they stand up on their own before you’ve even tried them on.

Rigid dark indigo jeans like these hold their own shape and stack properly on the shoe. Here they’re worn with a black tee and black leather shoes.

The Pieces: Quarter-Zip, Work Jacket and Pleated Trousers

Three garments carry the shape of the fall 2026 menswear trends. They’re the pieces I’d actually spend money on, because they outlast the trend around them.

Two of them have numbers behind them. In the Lyst Index for the last quarter of 2025, searches for quarter-zip sweaters rose 132 percent in three months. Interest in Barbour rose 147 percent.

6) The Quarter-Zip Knit

This one reads like an office joke at first. A brown quarter-zip layered on a white tee, with taupe pleated trousers, proves otherwise. Half unzipped, sleeves pushed up, it sits closer to the body than a hoodie ever did.

7) The Workwear Jacket

Chore coats are beating the wool topcoat for anyone under thirty. A faded brown canvas work jacket over a cream hood covers all of October and still takes a layer underneath in November. When you look through men’s jackets, go for the boxier cut, because the slim version defeats the purpose.

8) Pleated Wide Trousers

Two days a week, your jeans can stay in the drawer. Grey pinstripe pleated trousers with a black leather bomber and low suede sneakers show how it lands in real life.

The Finishing Touches: Sneakers and the Wool Scarf

These last two are the cheapest to try and the easiest to retire. You’ll see them first in photos.

9) Low-Profile Suede Sneakers

You’ve probably noticed sneakers getting slimmer, older and softer. Tan suede terrace shoes under baggy jeans and a fleece jacket fit this palette better than white leather. 10) The Big Wool Scarf

By December the scarf is usually the thing doing the talking, and a big wool one is worth buying early.

Checks came off the Milan and Paris runways in every scale. On the street, it’s a wide check wool scarf worn long over a grey knit, as here with black baggy trousers and a cap. Keep it in the same warm family, or let it be your red.

Which Fall 2026 Trends Should Men Skip?

Skip parachute volume, camo, heavy logos and anything skinny. If you’ve bought one of those recently, I’d wear it out and not replace it. Extreme width peaked two seasons ago, and pants that pool on the ground now date a fit faster than anything else.

Cargos are the harder call. They’re still around, but the pants alone no longer do the work. That’s why we rebuilt our cargo pants outfits for men around the silhouette.

Novelty faux fur and head-to-toe runway color belong to photographers. If you don’t wear hats yet, this isn’t the fall to start with a flat cap.

Where to Start With Fall 2026 Menswear Trends on a Budget

Buy in this order. You can stop at any step:

• One brown piece, like a knit or trousers. It’s the cheapest move with the biggest reach.
• One jacket, suede or canvas, ideally secondhand.
• Heavier denim, tried on in person, because rigid jeans fit nothing like the photos.
• An accent, like a red cap or a check scarf, cheap to test and cheap to retire.
